A public meeting held on 1 April at Niagara heard that twenty workers had been attacked and eleven had died. The meeting resolved to ask Sir John Colborne to send medical men from York to make a diagnosis of the disease which one correspondent said was 'worse 20 A Darkened House than any account I have read of the cholera/ Medical men had already been sent to the district when this request was made, but they differed over the nature of the disease.
